Firstly, and most importantly Happy New Year. I hope you had a really good New Year’s celebration, and hope that 2014 will bring you all that you want it to. And thanks for being a reader of my blog, I’m really glad that you find it valuable! For those of you that enjoyed a glass (or twelve) of wine last night, I hope the hangovers are starting to clear 🙂
In a break from my normal blog style, I have a few quick “New Year” updates for you, including information about some events you might be interested in attending during January/March. I hope that you find these updates interesting.
1. See me speak at “Mindsets To Maximise Your Performance” conference, Coventry, 24 January 2014 (10% off)
I’m really pleased to say that I’ll be speaking at an innovative new conference being held in Coventry this January. The conference focuses on exploring new ways of thinking, and discussing how to deal with common business situations in a new and different ways.
My presentation is entitled “Avoiding the Solution Illusion” and will focus on the dangers of early solutioneering, with some practical tips on how to avoid this. It’s a topic I’m really passionate about, and I’m really looking forward to presenting it.
You can find out more about the conference by clicking here. As a reader of my blog, you’re entitled to a discount. By using the promotional code BLACKMETRIC you’ll receive a 10% discount from the ticket price. I hope to see you there!
2. Intel BA Web 2013: A virtual conference (You’re invited!). 12 March 2013, Free.
Following the success of the 2012 event, Intel in collaboration with IIBA UK will be running a virtual conference in March this year. The event will be held on 12 March 2014, and I’m pleased to say I’ll be speaking at the event.
This is a great opportunity to hear a wide range of speakers without having to leave the comfort of your PC. And best of all it’s completely free.
Click here to read more about the event. Registration isn’t yet open, so make sure you’re on the IIBA UK mailing list so that you’re first to hear when the event registration opens. I suspect the event will fill up quickly!
3. IIBA UK event in Cardiff, Wales, 15 Jan 2014
I’m really excited that the first IIBA UK, Wales Branch, event will be held on the 15 January 2014. The event will cover two topics:
“Does business change overlook the social impact within our organisations?” “Project Life-Cycle and the BA”
If you are in or near the Cardiff area, it’s definitely worth checking the event out. Best of all, the event is completely free for IIBA UK Chapter members and just £10 for non-members. Bargain! I’m hoping to attend — diary permitting — so I hope that I’ll catch up with you there…
4. An IIBA UK Blog
And my final news item for this blog post…
Many of you will be aware that outside of my “day job”, I volunteer for the IIBA UK Chapter and hold the elected post of President. If you’ve ever wondered what being IIBA UK president involves, you can now get a taster by reading my IIBA UK blog, on the IIBA UK website. Just click on the link below:

And please do stay in touch and contact me if I can ever be of any help.
